Pymwymic invests to revolutionise water management through Weenat

Pymwymic is excited to announce its latest investment in Weenat, a French-based company with a leading position in soil water content monitoring across Europe. Weenat is reshaping the water management landscape by providing food and agricultural industries solutions which foster more climate-resilient practices through optimised water usage. Pymwymic co-led the €8.5m Series C alongside lead investor ECBF, including participation from Liberset and existing shareholder IDIA Capital Investissement. The Series C funding will empower Weenat to continue innovating and supporting the agricultural community in combating water scarcity and climate change.

Climate change is an undeniable reality, making water scarcity and management a major environmental challenge for the coming decades. This situation carries profound implications for farmers, given that agriculture accounts for 70% of global freshwater withdrawals, with more than half of this water being inefficiently utilised due to lack of suitable tools. Weenat is dedicated to supporting farmers in overcoming these challenges by delivering precise soil water and weather insights on a field-by-field level. The company achieves this through its own network of approximately 25,000 sensors and a software platform which offers actionable insights tailored to each individual field.

“In 2023 alone, our 10.000 soil sensors resulted in the conservation of 32 million cubic meters of water. The potential impact of scaling our solutions across all fields in Europe is truly stunning! We are thrilled to welcome new investors who share our commitment to make the most meaningful impact.”

Jérôme Le Roy, CEO, Weenat’s Founder Co-Founder and CEO

Since its inception in 2014, Weenat has established itself as an expert in interpreting and computing soil water content across various crops and soil compositions. By harnessing data from its extensive sensor network and the strategic acquisition of Weather Measures in 2021, Weenat has curated an invaluable and extensive database, laying the groundwork for its sophisticated soil water content modelling. Moving forward, Weenat remains committed to further innovation in soil water content monitoring through its ambitious R&D programme. By enabling climate-resilient agriculture and bettering the lives of farmers, Weenat’s impact directly contributes to the promotion of food security and equitable socio-economic conditions for agricultural communities.

“Weenat’s innovative water management solutions resonate with our mission. We are thrilled to back their efforts in advancing sustainable agriculture and look forward to seeing the positive impact on farming communities.”

Rogier Pieterse, Pymwymic Managing Partner

Weenat becomes Pymwymic’s sixth portfolio company of the Healthy Food Systems Impact Fund II.
