Pymwymic invests in Resurrect Bio’s Series A
Pymwymic is excited to announce its latest investment in Resurrect Bio, a London-based biotechnology company developing disease-resistant crops through AI-enabled gene editing. Resurrect Bio announced the successful initial close of its Series A funding round of over $8m, led by Corteva and joined by Pymwymic, Calculus Capital, UKI2S, SynBioVen, and AgFunder.
Plant diseases remain one of the most persistent and costly threats to global food security. As climate volatility accelerates and pathogen pressure increases, farmers and the seed industry face an increasing need for durable, sustainable crop protection solutions. Reducing reliance on chemical inputs whilst safeguarding yields requires technologies that can deliver resistance traits faster, more precisely, and at scale.
Resurrect Bio addresses this challenge through its proprietary rapid trait development platform. At the core is FloraFold®, its AI-driven computational biology engine that helps predict and prioritise plant disease-resistance genes that are most likely to work. Resurrect Bio then pairs these insights with high-throughput screening in plants to identify and “resurrect” resistance genes that pathogens have suppressed. By making small, targeted edits to the crop’s own native genes, the company restores the crop’s natural disease defense, offering a sustainable alternative to chemical crop protection whilst significantly accelerating the development timeline compared to conventional breeding methods.
“We’re thrilled to have secured this investment from such a distinguished group of partners who share our vision of delivering durable disease resistance to farmers. With Corteva’s leadership and the support of Calculus Capital, Pymwymic and our existing investors, we’re now positioned to scale our platform and deliver multiple resistance traits to the seed industry.” Dr. Cian Duggan, CEO of Resurrect Bio
Following a breakthrough showing plant resistance genes can be re-activated, Resurrect was founded in 2021 as a spin-out from Imperial College London and The Sainsbury Laboratory. Founders Dr. Cian Duggan (CEO), Prof. Tolga Bozkurt (CSO), and Prof. Sophien Kamoun bring world-class expertise in plant immunity. This Series A will enable Resurrect Bio to grow its team, further develop its rapid trait development platform, and advance multiple disease resistance products toward commercial partnerships.
“Resurrect Bio tackles crop disease at its genetic root, aligning with our impact strategy at Pymwymic to back scalable innovations that strengthen global food security. We’re proud to stand with this team as they bring resilient crops to farmers, faster.” Monique Meulemans, Partner Pymwymic
Resurrect Bio is the thirteenth portfolio company to join Pymwymic’s Healthy Food Systems Impact Fund II.
