Pymwymic invests in Vivent’s ‘wearables for plants’ to decode plant communication

Pymwymic is excited to announce its investment in Vivent, a frontrunner in the field of precision agriculture. Vivent has developed a groundbreaking technology that enables growers to directly access and understand plant communication, introducing a ‘wearables for plants’. In the investment, Pymwymic teamed up with Horticoop, joining current shareholders Astanor and ePlant. The new financing round will support Vivent in its mission of decoding plant communication to accelerate the transition towards sustainable food production.

What if we could understand what plants are saying and what causes them to grow, bear fruits, drop their leaves or feel susceptible to disease? Vivent, the Swiss-based plant technology company, has developed unique technology that enables us to listen in to what plants are saying. They use electrodes to detect signals within a plant’s stem, much like how we can measure brain activity with an EEG scan in humans. By using machine learning, Vivent’s technology acts like a translator, converting plant signals into a language that humans can understand.

“Continuously monitoring crop health has led to important insights into plants’ responses to the environment and crop treatments. Vivent’s solution enables farmers to improve yields while using fewer inputs, which means food is produced more sustainably.”

Carrol Plummer, Vivent Co-Founder and CEO

This technology serves to assist growers maintain healthy crops by offering early warning signals for plant stress. Decoding plant communication in real time empowers them to understand their plants’ needs and act significantly earlier than many other existing precision agriculture technologies. Such early detection ultimately leads to higher yields, lower costs, less chemical treatments and better quality products. By using resources more efficiently, Vivent supports growers in sustainable farming practices, benefiting both the environment and their socio-economic well-being.

“We are excited to support Vivent on their journey to unlock the ‘language of plants’ and deepen our knowledge of how to deal with plant stress.”

About Vivent

Founded in 2012 by Carrol Plummer and Nigel Wallbridge, Vivent is a Swiss-based B Corp certified company. Their innovation, also referred to as a ‘wearable for plants,’ records and interprets plant signals, offering growers real-time insights into plant health. This technology enables growers to monitor stress levels in plants, diagnose specific issues, and ultimately achieve higher crop yields and superior produce quality, all while using resources more efficiently. With its mission to harness bio signals for sustainable food production, Vivent aims to pave the way for a future where real-time plant information optimizes crop management and facilitates the efficient automation of agronomic systems.
