Thank you, Fairphone
In 2017 Fairphone became the first investment of Pymwymic’s newly launched impact fund. Ever since, the company has been an inspiration for what it really takes to lead, build and scale a company which is on a mission to ignite change. We are proud to announce that the time has come to handover the reins to new shareholders who can support the company in the next phase. Thank you Fairphone for being bold, pushing for action, sharing the journey, and most of all… for never stopping believing in a better way of doing business.
From the earth to your pocket, a smartphone’s journey is filled with unfair practices. By establishing a market for ethical electronics, Fairphone inspires the entire electronics industry to act more responsibly. This means taking a holistic approach to fairness to people and planet, motivating suppliers and manufacturers to continue to invest in improving working conditions, worker satisfaction and sustainable business practices, as well as providing better opportunities for the communities linked to its supply chain. As a result, through every phone sold, Fairphone demonstrates that there is demand for ethical electronics in combination with a profitable business model.
“Over the past years, Fairphone has been able to transform from a social movement to an impactful mission-driven company. I would like to thank all shareholders who have supported us over the years.”
Eva Gouwens, Fairphone CEO
Since joining Pymwymic’s portfolio in 2017 as the first investment of the Healthy Ecosystems Impact Fund I, Fairphone has acted as a guiding example of how to truly embed impact into day-to-day operations and make it part of a company’s DNA.
An international consortium of impact investors led by new shareholders Invest-NL and ABN AMRO have joined forces with existing shareholders to invest €49 million in Fairphone, allowing for the exit of Pymwymic and over 1000 crowdfunders. Fairphone will use the new growth capital to strengthen its brand positioning and create further awareness around fairness and sustainability in the electronics industry.
“It has been a pleasure to watch Fairphone go from strength-to-strength and show us what it truly means to be an impact company. We look forward to following their promising journey with the new mission-aligned shareholders.”
